WHAT ABOUT A GREY?

I can honestly say that I have never been a huge fan of the color grey...charcoal, dusty colors(which are made with grey, by the way), were okay, but not a true grey. I have to admit after overdosing on dark brown and black as neutrals, I have grown to love grey! I think colors can be re-worked and look fresh again! Which reminds me of the resurgence of hot pink and kelly green...very preppy, but very fun and fresh! I can't believe I was so judgemental in my younger years...(Of course, I will not wear grey very often near my face as I look dead! Just not a good color for Verna...jewelry is another story as I love silver!)

Think about all of the grey in nature..clouds, elephants, rocks and how beautiful they are! So I guess we can change our mind about colors...

Grey is a mix of white and black in its purest form, but any other color can be added to it to make it warmer or cooler. Silhouette has red undertones, Metropolitan has cool blue, and Revere Pewter has warmer undertones. I have recently(during the remodel) painted a sofa table gray and have stained my new 72" table top with both grey and brown...to look kind of weathered. I like grey with other soothing colors- aqua and sage to apple green.

These are Cape May Cobblestone and Kendall Charcoal.

So what do you think? Could you like grey a little more? Paired with a lilac or purple like the carpet picture courtesy of the Flor Carpet Tiles website. www.flor.com I fell in love with this carpet- and carpet tiles can be changed out if they get ruined or stained.

A sidenote: I am awaiting samples from the concrete countertop craftsmen that will be a charcoal grey with a brown or bronze accent. I will let you know how they turn out!

Oo-la-la backsplashes...

Because I am working on my own kitchen design I have been researching backsplash materials. These caught my eye for one reason or another..good or bad!

The 3D copper backsplash pictured below is rather cool- I have a copper kitchen sink and this might be a good choice to tie the 2 together...

This rock backsplash is not something I would use...I just can't quit thinking about how you would clean it! And trust me you want a cleanable backsplash! Whether it is food or grease or even just water splashed on it...and what about dust?!?!?

This picture is just plain awesome! I don't know that it would work in my design, but just seeing the outdoors come in and the light shining thru the glassware is pretty cool...

Lastly, I like the clean crisp look of this backsplash! I love the contemporary, modern shape of the tiles and the subtle color changes. The open shelves would be great to show off my dishes and platters! (And I do have a kind of dish fetish...shhh...don't tell my husband! I just can't seem to pass up a beautiful platter or serving dish!)

What material would you like to use? Any particular colors? Send me pictures of yours and I will post them!

Design Quote of the day/week or month (what ever you choose!): "There's alot of misinformation about marble being too porous and impractical. I still think it's the best kitchen counter material. Put a marble poultice on a watermark for 24 hours and it will be completely restored." Robert Bakes, owner Bakes and Company, Sag Harbor, NY

Cool Texture for Walls

Hi everyone! Long time no see...I just have been contemplating what to do with the blog and I want to try something new. I come across cool new products all of the time and want to share them through this venue. I am thinking that there will be more entries with less to read. Feedback from readers would be nice ...So, I will try this new idea,,,let me know what you think!

If you have done anything lately and want to share send it to me at v.v.design@msn.com.

I also would like all of you readers to "friend" this blog as it provides benefits for v.v.design...

This week I want to share some wall panels I found online. They can be painted, then used as artwork. Even add a rustic frame of stained pine or something. Another option is to butt them up together and create some texture over a whole wall or above a fireplace mantle...any other ideas from you?

They could cover a not-so-smooth wall; rotate them next to each other for even more interest. They are 18"square, can be painted and come with sticky tabs to hang them with. They run 10 in a box for $84.99 plus shipping. Check them out at http://www.popdeluxe.net/architect-wall-flats.html

What could you do with these? If you weren't going to use all of them, why not share??? Any other ideas for texture on your wall?

Remodel update: Whew, it has been a whole year since we started the "Vuckovich remodel". In our house we are calling it "phase 1". I think we have talked about even a phase 3 or 4- only time will tell what we do. But one thing is for sure and that is that we are going to stay in this house until they carry us out! (Well, maybe not if we won a lottery. Of course we would have to play to win!!LOL)

One of the next blogs will chronicle the changes thus far.

So what is your job after reading this? Sign up, give me some feeedback and/or send me your projects...I can't wait to hear from you!
